Ronald McDonald Family Kitchen
When a child is hospitalized, their family needs to be close. But staying close means leaving behind the routines that keep everyone going — including meals. That's why the Ronald McDonald House of Siouxland brings the kitchen to the hospital.
How it Started
Launched in 2006, the Ronald McDonald Family Kitchen was created to ensure families never had to choose between staying by their child's side and getting a meal. What began as support for families in the NICU has grown into a regional network of kitchens serving families across pediatric, newborn, and specialty care units. Ours was the first chapter in the entire Ronald McDonald House system worldwide to launch a program like this — and our model has since inspired chapters around the globe.
What's in a Family Kitchen
Stocked with meals, snacks, and beverages, our Family Kitchens are open 24 hours a day to any family with a child receiving medical care. No cost. Just ask a unit staff member for access.
You don't have to be staying at the Ronald McDonald House to use a Family Kitchen. Whether you live down the street or hours away, if your child is in that unit, our kitchen is open to you — a place to grab a meal, a snack, or just a quiet cup of coffee when you need a moment to breathe.
